Wallis Annenberg GenSpace is proud to announce Christopher J. Leech as the new director of our innovative community center for aging adults based in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles.  Christopher brings nearly two decades of experience working in the aging and longevity sector with particular focus on  technology, policy, and direct services to build a bold future for the older adult population.

Christopher shares our founder Wallis Annenberg’s vision to redefine aging and longevity in the 21st century and will also lead GenSpace’s leadership initiative to help change the public narrative on aging while encouraging greater connection, inclusion, and wellness for older adults in Los Angeles and across the country.

Christopher brings a deep background in technology designed to support older adults’ autonomy. Most recently, he served as director of product marketing for a startup focused on combating social isolation for older adults with an AI powered robotic companion. He previously served as manager of resident technology and innovation for Brookdale Senior Living, where he oversaw new programs and training for older adults in more than 1,100 communities across the country. Christopher also led AARP’s Senior Planet Exploration Center, one of the first technology centers dedicated to training people over 60.

“I’m thrilled to join the great team as the Director of Wallis Annenberg GenSpace,” said Christopher. “I am particularly eager to collaborate with other community leaders, the GenSpace members, and the GenSpace team in this beautifully designed, innovative space squarely focused on reimagining how our country can update the narrative around aging.”

GenSpace, which has hundreds of members, is now in its second year of operations with daily programs and classes for the aging and intergenerational community. GenSpace has also hosted multiple gatherings designed to challenge stereotypes and the outdated images and conversations around aging in the 21st century.

“We are all thrilled to have Christopher at the helm of GenSpace where he brings hands-on experience, passion, and technological skills to support GenSpace members and help change the conversation about aging in America,” said Cinny Kennard, Executive Director of the Annenberg Foundation and Vice President of the Board of the Wallis Annenberg Legacy Foundation. “We will look to his insight and knowledge to continue to strengthen GenSpace’s impact in the community and nationally.”

Christopher holds a master’s degree in bioethics from Columbia University and a bachelor’s in psychology and philosophy from UC Davis.  He is currently at work at GenSpace joining the first part of this month.
