Partnerships are central to GenSpace’s mission to provide our members with a welcoming space where they can explore their creativity and gain exposure to the LA community’s rich cultural experiences.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) was a natural fit to help us fulfill this goal while connecting members with the museum’s stunning works of art and exposing them to LACMA’s talented team.
The USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy partnered with GenSpace to support members through physical exercises and modifications. Over the summer, interns Alena Cardwell, Adriana De Paz, and Lena Li completed a 12-week placement, enhancing members’ quality of life and highlighting occupational therapy’s benefits for older adults.
GenSpace often convenes leaders and hosts discussions to challenge stereotypes about aging and contribute to a better future for older adults – this includes highlighting cutting-edge research on topics such as Alzheimer’s dementia.
GenSpace is proud to partner with the Getty to bring the iconic museum’s art to older adults. This collaboration included a six-week immersive series inspired by the 20th century artist and sculptor, Camille Claudel, whose exhibition was featured at the Getty.
At GenSpace, we connect future leaders with older adults to foster mutual learning and reshape perceptions of aging. Through our partnership with the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, students gain hands-on experience in our community. Recently, a graduate intern led a two-part workshop on nutrition, teaching members about the link between diet and longevity while offering practical tips for healthier living.
In partnership with USC, GenSpace welcomed interns from the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and the Chan Division of Occupational Science and Therapy. These interns brought fresh perspectives on healthy living, longevity, and daily wellness through occupational therapy and nutrition workshops.
Studies show that as of July 2022, food insecurity in Los Angeles County affected a quarter of the population – a 10% increase from the prior year. And while the United States Department of Agriculture defines food insecurity as “a lack of consistent access to sufficient food,” the reality is much more complex.
GenSpace was happy to celebrate its members and volunteers last month with a bingo and magic Night! Members and staff wore their favorite costumes and were treated to a couple of rounds of bingo, a magic show and other activities, in this special celebration.
